Planning Events Worthy of the First Lady Michelle Obama Presented by Franny Starkey

Franny Starkey (former Senior Advisor and Director of Scheduling & Advance for Michelle Obama and current COO of Imprint Group) shares the most important lessons she’s learned in her presidential planning career that can be embraced and applied for corporation and association planners across the country. Done well, events are tools used to achieve a greater goal, otherwise it’s just a waste of time and money. The job of any planner is to conceptualize and execute programs that have an impact on the message being delivered and the people being engaged and activated.

About the Speaker

Franny ColorIn her capacity at the White House, Franny designed and implemented trips by the First Lady to more than 20 states and a dozen countries overseeing everything from event design and execution; message look and delivery; transportation & security logistics; and political outreach.  Franny directed the launch of the First Lady’s three signature platforms – Let’s Move!; Joining Forces; and her international agenda focused on youth empowerment and community engagement abroad launched in Haiti and Mexico and later in her groundbreaking trip to Africa in June 2011.

Additionally, during her tenure at the White House, Franny oversaw all of the First Lady’s international hosting obligations planning spousal summit programs in Pittsburgh for the 2009 G-20 and in New York City for the 2010 United Nations General Assembly.

Prior to her work at the White House, Franny designed and implemented various events and schedules for numerous political campaigns.  Additionally, in 2008, she served as the Director of the Colorado Convention Center, headquarters for the 2008 Democratic National Convention in her hometown of Denver, Colorado, where she managed more than 50,000 square feet of meeting space, more than 100 events, and the overall logistics, security and transportation needs for the facility during the convention.

Donation Drive for REST and Genesis Project

We are collecting donations for the REST (https://www.iwantrest.com) and Genesis Project (https://www.genesisnow.org) , two organizations that support survivors of sexual exploitation. If you can bring the following we will be collecting these during the April and July Educational Programs.

The biggest needs are hygiene kits, including:  feminine wipes, shampoo / conditioner, soap, lotion, shaver, chapstick & hand wipes.

Clothing needs: They have ongoing clothing needs to keep the resource closet stocked, particularly with the season changing into spring/summer.
