Volunteer

By: Lauren Siring, CMP, CGMP | Jan 25, 2022

Felicia Price, CMP has been an MPI member for 26 years. Over her tenure with the Sacramento/Sierra Nevada Chapter, she has served as President along with several board positions and has volunteered numerous times and recently participated on the Annual Audit Committee.  Felicia has been a mentor to many and her dedication to fellow members inspired the Board to recognize her as this quarter's Volunteer of the Quarter.  We are delighted that Felicia has humbly accepted this recognition and has shared some of her insights and experiences for our members.

Tell us about your role at the AMG.

I joined the AMG Team in January 2018 as a Meeting and CME Manager. My overall responsibilities include management and execution of meetings and conferences, tradeshows, site selection, contract negotiation, budgeting, speaker and sponsor procurement, continuing medical education and accreditation for several of AMG’s clients.

What do you like the most in what you do?

I enjoy the details from concept to execution. No two events are alike, and some more challenging than others. Understanding the needs of the clients I serve and turning those ideas into a successful event is very rewarding.

How did you land in the meeting industry, and how have you been involved in the industry?

I got into the meeting industry quite by accident. After two years of assisting with meetings and events at the Physical Therapy Association, I was offered an opportunity to transition into the meeting manager position. I immediately joined MPISSN, joined the CMP study group, received my CMP certification in 1996 and the rest is history!

What has helped you to be successful in your career?

The pursuit of knowledge. I’m a firm believer that no matter how long you’ve worked in an industry, there is always more to learn. And lists. Lots of to-do lists. Using Wrike project management tool allows me to track multiple projects, tasks and deadlines which is especially important when managing multiple events at once.

What advice do you have for those that are interested in getting involved?

We all have long to-do lists, looming deadlines and never enough hours in the day to accomplish what’s on our plate so it would be really easy to say you don’t have time. You can choose to get involved a little or a lot. Being actively involved in your professional association builds community, collaboration and relationships. Don’t overthink it, just do it!

What value do you see in giving your time to MPISSN and what can others gain from participating?

Volunteering your time in MPISSN is something you will never regret. It will enrich your relationships and connect you to people and ideas that will positively impact your professional career path. You will get more than you give.

Do you have a favorite vacation spot or hobby?

One of my favorite vacation spots is Monterey. I love the quaint charm of the seaside city and surrounding areas, wonderful restaurants, riding bikes along Hwy 1 and just sitting by the beach listening to the sound of the crashing waves. The beach is my happy place and Monterey is a great little getaway spot where I can relax and recharge.

Felicia has included a snapshot of her with her cute Shih Tzu- Maltese, Max.  She says Max loves Monterey, too!
