Tell us a bit about yourself.
I think my LinkedIn profile really describes me best. I’m just somebody that likes honest conversations with people who are passionate about what they do and who are willing to wear their hearts on their sleeves a little bit more than normal.
How did you join the industry?
I joined the industry without even knowing it when I graduated from broadcasting school (because that lead me to Audio Visual and yes… A/V is definitely part of the hospitality industry).
From your lens… What is a value-add, multifunction, versatile tech must-have?
The ability to use Artificial intelligence (AI) in a way that makes sense to you. Personally, I’m not sure if it’s a value add or not yet, but I can tell you that it is something we’re all staring down the barrel of — we all need to have a core understanding of it, how it can help us, and how it can impact us.
What’s your favourite 'icebreaker question' at a networking event/best conversation starter?
My favourite icebreaker question is to simply ask someone “What are the biggest challenges you’re facing today?”, because it’s a great way to get a better understanding of what’s going on in a person’s work or personal life.
Can you share what you do to incorporate mindfulness and wellness into your busy everyday life?
I try to tell myself every day, “Don’t sweat the small stuff.” I think this is one thing the emerging workforce has figured out. They truly understand work-life balance, and I know for the older generation we just thought we had to work through everything at all costs so… Don’t sweat the small stuff, focus on what’s important and enjoy the journey.
What do you want to accomplish before your next birthday?
Well, my next birthday is only a couple of weeks away, so I don’t have a single item I’d like to accomplish in that time span, but I do know that whatever I do, I want it to have meaning and to make an impact.
What can you share as a call to action for anyone thinking of joining MPI?
My single biggest tip is to leverage your MPI community. When I first joined MPI in 2000, I used it only as a networking tool and I missed the opportunity of using it as a personal growth tool.
With MPI, you are surrounded by the most amazing people in our industry and yes, you should use it for networking for business, but if you use it as a professional and personal growth tool, it will provide you exponentially greater satisfaction.
