About Stacy

I was born and raised in Ottawa and attended high school in Kanata. After high school I studied Business Administration with Cooperative Education at Acadia University in Wolfville, NS. While studying at Acadia, I was part of a team that took second place in the JDI Direct Exchange Case Competition. During my co-op placement at the Canadian Environmental Assessment Agency, our department was recognized and awarded the Collaboration and Partnership Award. I graduated last week, May 13th with my Business Administration degree.

In January I started the Event Management program at Algonquin College, where I have been able to volunteer and assist with a variety of events. In June, my Wish team executed an event in support of The Children’s Wish Foundation on a $0 budget.

On a more personal note, in the years leading up to University I played competitive hockey for the Ottawa Lady Senators. Also, I have been fortunate enough to travel with my family (parents and brother) to different places and experience life in different cultures and environments.

Career Path

I am currently still a student in the Event Management Program at Algonquin College and my goal is to pursue a full-time career in the event planning industry following the competition of my certificate. One day, I hope to use both my business and events background to start my own business.

What’s Trending?

The social media platform that I would recommend following would be Pinterest. With such a growing and evolving industry, Pinterest always has the latest trends and ideas to plan and execute a successful and memorable event. In addition to Pinterest, I would also recommend being active in Facebook groups to be current on what events are happening around the city and beyond.

Goals

Upon receiving the Event Management Certificate in August and before my birthday in October, my goal is to find a full-time position in the events industry.

Impacts

Moving to the East Coast for university has impacted me in a number of ways professionally. It has provided me with valuable skills to bring to this profession such as: professionalism, time-management skills, organizational skills, being resourceful and independent.

Me

I believe that the best thing about being 22 is that there is still lots of time to learn, grow, experience and explore the endless opportunities that the world and industry have to offer. The technological advancements and innovations happening make it an exciting time to be young.

Breaking the Ice

The question that I typically turn to when starting a conversation is how the individual got to where they are today. I believe that through this question there is a lot to learn and discover about the individual and the opportunities out there.
