Why did you decide to join MPI Ottawa?

I joined MPI Ottawa in 1998 to expand my network when I was in the process of starting my business, Emerald Event Planning. I had been involved in planning corporate meetings and events but had not heard of MPI prior to starting the research for my business.

I encourage my team at CCHL to join and volunteer because my personal involvement with MPI has been very rewarding. The network of meeting professionals and the friendships made over the years are truly cherished. Volunteering on a committee offers learning opportunities and great hands- on experience. It is also the best way to get to know other members when you are new to the organization.

How has your membership help you with your role?

As a seasoned meeting planner, I see value in my membership because of the networking opportunities and the creative education sessions being offered. The MPI Ottawa Chapter has been particularly innovative with virtual networking and education events during the COVID-19 crisis. The weekly themed coffee talks and the recent round table sessions have been instrumental in keeping me connected with members of our amazing industry.

Tell us about your experience volunteering with MPI Ottawa.

Over my 22-year tenure with the MPI Ottawa Chapter, I volunteered on the Education Committee, GMID Committee which I chaired for several years and I was on the Board for two years as Director of Strategic Education. My time on the Board allowed me to further develop my leadership skills; gain a better understanding of governance and the chapter’s business processes and operations; as well as the opportunity to be a mentor to some amazing industry colleagues. I strongly recommend that members get involved, the benefits are invaluable.
