Specific Event Questions:

Who is the target audience?

Everyone! This event is open to the public, all ages and ability levels to experience a unique yoga opportunity under the full moon.

What is the main objective of Yogathon?

To raise awareness and funds for the MPI Foundation, to assist in the meeting & event industry recovery. The funds will be directly donated locally via scholarships and financial support to our local members in the MPI Ottawa Chapter and across Canada.

What is unique about this particular event for the MPI Foundation?

Although this event is free to the public, we hope to bring more awareness for the MPI Foundation to the meeting, event and tourism community. Encouraging our colleagues, peers, friends and families to “Donate to Participate” and raise funds for industry recovery and potentially recruit new members for our local chapter.

What is the biggest obstacle you had to overcome?

They say everything happens for a reason; the people and opportunities aligned and clicked together like a spark for this event. It came together so quickly, we had less than two weeks to start promoting and get the donation site up and running. We were able to prove that determination to run a successful event within a short time frame encourages organizations to prove they are nimble and creative in finding the right solutions.

What is your biggest success?

Full Moon Yoga on June 14 is the first in our Yogathon series. Our immediate success in this is actually the proof of concept and execution. We had already been in discussion with MoveCamp about our cross country Yogathon concept, concurrently the City had also reached out to Move Camp to run this edition of Full Moon Yoga. One email later and here we are!

We have also been working with Canadian Chapter Champions to confirm dates and locations in many cities, bringing together a sense of solidarity among all the Canadian chapters and members to host and participate in local Yogathon events. We will have a schedule of events to announce soon.

Did you do anything new or innovative? If so, how did it go?

This event is offered free to the public, our obligation is to promote to the public to show up and enjoy something interesting in an outdoor setting. The innovative opportunity comes with building a unique and supportive relationship with key organizations like MoveCamp Canada and where we cross promote this event to our meeting and event colleagues, local MPI members and to like-minded association members to “Donate to Participate” in support of the MPI Foundation.

What challenges did you have putting the features together?

We are all volunteers, so Time has been the biggest challenge. We also needed to rapidly secure promotion channels within the community for public participation and hone our social media campaign directed to and facilitated by our meeting, event and tourism partners.
