Tell us a bit about yourself
I was born in Montreal, and my family moved to Geneva, Switzerland when I was five. I was fortunate enough to go to French schools until the age of 16, when I began two years of schooling in England. We travelled a lot during those years, and it was a wonderful opportunity. Although exciting to have been brought up in Europe, it was bit hard living in a very transient town of postings, where you would make friends, then they would leave a couple of years later.
In 1997, my son Nicolas was born, bringing a bright light into my life. Thanks to him, during his younger years I got very involved in Scouts, hockey and karate. He is now in his last year at the University of Ottawa. I live with my partner Scott, who came into our lives eight years ago. He is a blessing, of course, he is also a contractor and very handy to have around!
How did you join the industry?
When I arrived in Ottawa, I began the Recreational Facility Management Program at Algonquin College, then moved into the Events program. I joined CICan in 1994 and progressed up the ladder and in 1997 I became a Meeting Planner for our many events, including the large annual conference that takes place across Canada. This has been great, because I’ve gotten to visit most places in my country of origin. I have always been an avid themed party planner, and in 2022 we plan to take it on the road for other families to enjoy.
Inspiration:
In 2015 I began a non-profit that assists charities working with First Responders and Military personnel suffering from PTSD. We are the boots on the ground for several charities and First Responder groups when they have events as well as having our very own annual event called the Superhero Academy for children.
Professional:
Joining MPI was the best professional move I could have made. This great group has allowed me to grow, learn, and connect with so many important people that I can reach out to when needed. It was especially rewarding during COVID, as we were able to attend many virtual events that were both educational and great for keeping up with the folks we used to work with in person. I took advantage of this time to join the Ottawa Chapter’s Member Events Committee and had fun working on several events.
Personal:
I have a substantial collection of Coca-Cola items (over 150) in my basement games room that even includes a Barbie.
Networking:
Hands down, my favourite networking event was the 2021 MPI Up to Snow Good (Festive Dinner) in December 2021.
