Zoom Meeting, Register for Link
Join us for our next member networking event on February 15th. We will be joined by Marc Forgette, owner of Makatew Workshops. Marc is Algonquin and French and a proud member of the Wahgoshig First Nation Band in Northeastern Ontario. He started Makatew Workshops in June 2019 in order to share knowledge and the love for his culture with others through hands-on workshops focused on traditional indigenous crafts.
For this workshop, Marc will show us how indigenous elements can be incorporated into events. He will guide us through the creation of a traditional medicine bag, sharing stories about the origins of the materials, the cultural significance of the Medicine Bag, and how event planners can ensure that they support Indigenous artisans, entrepreneurs and knowledge-keepers by taking some thoughtful yet simple steps to appreciate, rather than appropriate, Indigenous culture. He will also talk about the importance of land acknowledgments before the start of events and the best way of going about them.
Any registrations prior to February 2nd will receive their medicine bag kit by mail. Please ensure you provide your correct mailing address during registration. Any registrations between February 3rd and 14th will need to pick up their medicine kit in Kanata. Contactless curbside pickup available.
