Our Commitment to Diversity, Equality, and Inclusion

MPI New England brings people together "to learn, innovate, collaborate, and advocate; leading and empowering the meeting and event community to change the world."

For us to be successful and live up to our mission to support the growth and professional development of our membership, we must do the hard work of reflecting on our behaviors, actions, and policies that may be unconsciously not welcoming to all underserved communities. We aim to make sustainable, long-term change.

We pledge to:

  • Listen and engage with empathy, curiosity, and respect to create a more inclusive culture for our membership.
  • Thrive as a chapter that holds a privileged position in a global association and responsibly use that position to advocate for further change.
  • Share best practices for growing equity, diversity, and inclusion industry-wide, and we will hold one another accountable for measuring action and progress.
  • Be personally invested and committed to equity, diversity, and inclusion.
  • Support actions in New England that seek to achieve equity and justice for everyone, including industry planners, suppliers, and students alike.
  • Continue to believe in the transformative power of meetings and be dedicated to including those whom the industry has historically ignored.
  • Push towards inclusive and equitable chapter practices that prioritize partnerships with underrepresented populations, implement chapter practices that are representative of the communities we promote, advocate for sustainability, and honor the history of the region we serve. We see these as foundational to authentic representation and inclusion.
  • Build and sustain an equitable, diverse, and inclusive chapter, led by executive leadership and our boardroom.

We want to hear from you. What can we do better to support your professional development and create an association that celebrates people of all identities, but especially uplifts those who are underrepresented in our industry and membership?
