Program Overview

Meeting professionals aren’t responsible for communications during a crisis … right?    Wrong.

As a meeting and event professional, you hold a variety of roles. And if a crisis occurs, those roles include the coordination of the emergency management team, the determination of next steps and the consultation, management and direction of the communication process. Your marketing team won’t necessarily know the best communication streams to use, which ones are available, how best to communicate and when. If those responsibilities fall on you, are you prepared to act when a crisis happens?

MPI’s Event Crisis Communications Certificate Program will teach you how to use time-sensitive communications channels, including social media, when it really matters. The basic steps of effective crisis communications are not difficult, but they do require advance work to minimize risk and damage. Learn how to create a crisis communications plan for your event, make critical decisions for your organization and experience an exercise in real-time crisis communications.

"The Crisis Communications course seemed like a perfect learning opportunity for me, not only due to the pandemic, but as my role as a manager of our Foundation’s conference center and events. Located in Northern California, earthquakes and fires come to mind as potential crises, not to mention technological crises and others that might arise. Alex Plaxen shared excellent content that was useful and practical. He used case studies and experiential techniques to guide our learning, making it interactive, relevant and fun! This course provided practical tools to evaluate and expand our organization’s crisis communications plans."
