Q: What was your first job in the hospitality industry?
Vanessa: While obtaining my accounting degree at Temple University, my work study job was working in the front office of a Performing Arts Center. I worked my way from office administrator to House Manager, where I managed the front and back of house staff for various events.
Q: What has been your favorite meeting/event that you have planned or attended?
Vanessa: During my time working for a commercial real estate company, I was tasked with creating an engaging volunteer event for the Company’s employees that gave back to the local community. I developed the “Dresser Build Initiative”, a two-day event held in the parking lot of the Company’s shopping center – where over 200 volunteers built brand new dressers from wood pieces for a local homeless shelter.
I secured a partnership with Lowe’s Home Improvement in providing all needed materials as well as skilled labor for the event at no cost. The event was featured on NBC10 and The Times Herald and we won a regional award for the innovative event taking place on their property.
Q: What are you most looking forward to at WEC?
Vanessa: Building lasting relationships with like-minded business owners, both on the supplier side and planner side.
Q: Why are you/staff members of MPI?
As an entrepreneur, it can be a lonely road, but MPI is a great network and resource for all stages of my business. From personal professional development to event-related connections, I have been able to really grow and learn from the industries best and brightest.
