Over the next five years, what do you really want to do? Who do you really want to be? What do you really want to have? Where do you really want to go?
Life offers itself to us in an endless number of ways, but we seldom see or accept more than a tiny fraction of the exciting possibilities around us. The truth is most of us are so busy doing what we think we have to do that we never get around to doing what we really want to do. You can design your life to come to you the way you want it. You don’t have to take life the way it comes to you.
This is your life, your one-and-only life. What is it going to be? You decide. Starting today, you can make the next five years the most exciting, satisfying, productive and amazing years of your life so far—or just another five years.
Think about five years and what your life could look like if you design it and experience it in the way you envision it.
Be daring, be bold and be true to yourself.
At age 30, Amazon founder Jeff Bezos was working out of his garage. Five years later, his net worth was almost $10 billion.
Within just five years, entrepreneur Elon Musk helped grow three world-changing companies: PayPal, SpaceX and Tesla Motors.
As event professionals, we are talented, creative and innovative, and we tend to perform magic for our employers and clients who depend on us to execute their events under any and all circumstances. I would say that the last five years have been very good for many of us in the event industry, but maybe not good enough to endure this past few months.
So, what did you always want to do? Did you know that a single idea can transform a life, a family, a business, a nation, a world? Many people believe they can only have one or two new ideas per year. But what if, rather than wait for ideas to come your way organically, you dedicated yourself to having one new idea per week? In five years, you’d have 250 ideas—more than most people have in a lifetime.

When faced with a significant problem or setback, it’s tempting to simply give up on your dreams or plans. As event professionals we know that we can turn those problems into opportunities to be creative. We know that for every obstacle, there is a solution.
When was the last time you did something for the first time? Maybe it was pivoting to virtual content, maybe it was creating a new business model that co-exists with live events when they come back or maybe it is something you had always wanted to do. Life is now. It is never too late or too early.
My question to all of you reading this is, “How will you change the world in the next five years?”
My answer is be daring, be bold and be true to yourself.
