In this edition of MPItv, sponsored by Discover Puerto Rico, we speak with several influential meeting professionals about their best practices for maintaining business continuity in the wake of ongoing economic uncertainty due to the coronavirus pandemic—from leading in a state of vulnerability to working within social distancing guidelines to how much the industry will change in the long term.
“What can we do as hoteliers, as cruise ships, as DMCs to address the guidelines that are coming out?” says Elaine Morena, regional vice president - Northeast for Associated Luxury Hotels International. “One of our members has already come out with an updated meeting capacity chart where they look at what it would like at normal capacity and what it would look like based on the distancing guidelines of six feet. There are different things that we are all working on collectively to try to figure out how we can deliver to our customers and to their constituents when they have events to make sure that they feel safe and that we’re honoring the guidelines.”
The May issue of The Meeting Professional features our annual “State of the Industry” report, in which a cross section of MPI members discuss wellness, F&B trends, diversity and inclusion, staying passionate and, of course, life during a pandemic. Follow our blog for more “State of the Industry” articles throughout the month of May.
