Member Spotlight - Brooke Emshoff

This month’s member spotlight is our Social Media Subcommittee Chair, Brooke Emshoff. She got her start in the industry back in 2010, and has found her niche working in restaurants. Here’s my Q&A with her:

How did you get started in the industry:
“I was a science teacher at the Science Center and the event job opened up with the event department and I went for it!”    

Favorite event/meeting you produced:
Brooke was working with the Holiday Inn and that opportunity led her to help with Obama campaign, one of the sister properties in Iowa was one of his favorites – she was excited to meet the president, “it’s a big deal.” She says.  

What’s the craziest thing you’ve been asked to do for an event:
“We are asked to do so many things that you just do them, nothing seems too crazy at the time. Once a bride and groom’s driver did not show, so I just drove them, this was before uber and it was the right thing to do. I couldn’t leave them stranded.”

Brooke’s career has lead her mostly to the restaurant industry, she likes that there is a set menu, guests know what they are getting, which makes it easier to sell, with the way restaurants are branded the client reached out because you fit what they need and it’s easy to move forward, the expectation of what the event should look like is set. 

Best Covid-19 Advice:
“Meet people where they are. Are they strict? Support it. Are they laid back? Support it. We follow our regulations at Salt & Smoke and will do more if the client needs it. Make sure you staff is temp checked, masked and gloved!”
