Is making small talk a big chore or do you have the gift of gab? Networking novices and experts alike had something to learn from presenter Kelly Standing at the May 24th monthly program, “Networking NOT Working: Maybe We Go About it ALL Wrong.”
Kelly’s presentation provided those in attendance with hands-on, use-them-now techniques to make even the most reluctant conversationalist more comfortable and confident. After sharing her own personal experiences with honesty and humor, guests were left with some solid strategies for small talk including a quick, pre-party exercise and great conversation starters and conversation builders to get beyond “Hello” and the weather. During lunch, each table was challenged to discuss some of their own strategies and tips for networking opportunities.
In addition, guests were given a copy of Kelly’s book, “I’m Still Standing: How One Woman’s Brushes with Death Taught Her How to Live” with her thoughtful, sometimes hilarious, sometimes heart-wrenching insights about the choices we make that can keep us on our feet or knock us off our heels.
The event was held at the elegant Saint Louis Club, the foremost private dining club in the St. Louis area for the past 50 years. With classically decorated event space designed to convey the city’s French heritage, delicious cuisine, and fine service, this was a perfect venue for the MPI St. Louis Chapter event. Thanks to the Saint Louis Club and their staff for hosting us!
