Other than improving your Zoom Meeting skills, what have you learned (or learned to excel in professionally) since COVID-19 began?
Definitely meeting people where they are. I understand now that my asks and even my events need to not be daunting and actually reflect the capacities and needs of others.
Who are you outside of work?
I’m a cat dad, I like to cook and occasionally quilt.
Name a silver lining in your own work experience since the COVID-19 pandemic began.
I now better appreciate the importance and role of in-person events. In-person events are crucially important for engagement between attendees, but simply having an in-person event doesn’t mean that we don’t need to be intentional with its format and goals – in the way we would with a virtual or hybrid event.
What is your proudest professional accomplishment to date?
Executing the Delta Chi Fraternity’s first convention since the beginning of the pandemic – and coming in under budget.
What are some of your favorite things about being an MPI member?
I love having the opportunity to connect to a community of meeting professionals. I’m always surprised at how easy it is to talk to other MPI members my projects and the industry as a whole.
When do you plan to go on your next vacation and where do you want to go?
This Christmas I’m going with my partner to Boston for the first time. I’m looking forward to endless seafood and ice skating in the Boston Common.
What is the greatest place you have ever visited?
I would have to say the Chiang Rai Flower festival in Northern Thailand. Each year thousands and thousands of lilies, tulips, orchids and all kinds of flowers are put together in vibrant flowerbeds along with amazing art installations.
Something people don’t know about you:
I grew up in Alaska!
