Member Spotlight: Sarah Castle

Other than improving your Zoom Meeting skills, what have you learned (or learned to excel in professionally) since COVID-19 began?
Balancing the increased demand for events with returning to “normal”. Lots of people want to either bring back past events or make up for lost ones and that means quick turnaround times while still keeping quality of work. It is amazing to see events picking back up full force, but it can be challenging to develop larger events in shorter time frames.
Who are you outside of work?
I’m a homebody at heart so a lot of my downtime outside of work is used relaxing, reading, playing video games, and spending time at home, but when I do have the energy to explore and adventure I love to travel as much as I can, spend time with friends and family doing a variety of activities, and experience new things.
Name a silver lining in your own work experience since the COVID-19 pandemic began.
Better work-life balance is something that I think everyone has benefitted from during this transition out of the pandemic. The way companies operate now is way more supportive of creating a better work-life balance for lots of employees. There is still a bit to go, but in general awareness and social acceptance have risen to allow people to enjoy their work and enjoy time outside of work.
What is your proudest professional accomplishment to date?
Coordinating multiple first-time events that were on a larger scale for our institute that were back to back in early 2023.
What are some of your favorite things about being an MPI member?
My favorite things about being an MPI Member are having access to a great network of people that will help you develop personally and professionally, interesting event opportunities, and an array of resources and learning tools for anything event management.
When do you plan to go on your next vacation and where do you want to go?
I am planning a trip to Maine this summer! Spending half the time in Portland and the other half in Bar Harbor. Hoping to get some good hiking in and experience amazing views. For future travel, anything internationally. A few places on my list are Canada, Iceland, Australia, and Scotland.
What is the greatest place you have ever visited?
The greatest place I visited was Colorado! It was a perfect mix of the cityscape/museum experience alongside a gorgeous and diverse environment.
Something people don’t know about you:
I have a twin brother. We currently live together and he graduated from IUPUI in May 2023.
