Sewa Beats Q&A Session

Sewa Beats will be offering a collaborative session on Thursday with Q&A regarding a conversation we will have on the importance of an experience-based approach to meetings, since what we are doing is experiential in nature.  It will be discussed how it all applies to all kinds of meetings because the approach generates engagement on the part of the participants, and generates ROI for the stakeholders.  We will also talk about how creating experiences ties into the current research on meeting effectiveness, engagement, reaching millennials etc. The session will end with a little drum playing/demo by Bill Scheidt with Sewa Beats and maybe a surprise attendee will give it a go as well.

Friday, March 29th (9am - 11am)

Music as a Metaphor for Leadership Success

Based on current research in the field of leadership, this presentation is an experiential learning exploration that leverages the difference between “learning about” and “having an experience of” to create a deeper understanding of the fundamentals of effective leadership.  With a drum provided for each participant to use during the session, this program uses rhythm and music as a metaphor to explore critical leadership competencies.

Participants learn to create a piece of music together, debriefing each step along the way, cultivating a number of fundamental leadership skills.  The collective music making experience becomes a live learning laboratory in which the participants have an impactful and substantive experience with leadership abilities that drive success in today’s world.

Learning Outcomes:

  1. Revisit the fundamental competencies necessary for success as a leader in today’s professional world.
  2. Dynamically apply essential leadership skills through experiential learning exercises.
  3. Cultivate critical leadership abilities in the areas of effective communication, collaboration, emotional intelligence, and self-awareness.

Participants will be able to immediately apply their refreshed perspective on the fundamentals of leadership.  Having applied many of these skills through experiential learning exercises, they will have a renewed sense of the importance of a fundamentals-based focus in exploring what it means to be a leader in today’s professional world.  Additionally, through their day to day interactions with colleagues and co-workers, attendees will be able to immediately apply their learnings in the areas of self-awareness and interpersonal intelligence.

By using the perspective of music to explore the competencies of the field, participants will come away with a renewed appreciation of both the art and discipline of leadership.  Revisiting the fundamentals of the field in this way elevates the leadership practices of professionals across the meeting planning industry.
