Leeds Beckett University’s UK Centre for Events Management (UKCEM) has announced an all-new PhD impact bursary with a focus on innovation and new business models as part of its 25-year celebration and commitment to the meetings industry’s recovery.
Upon learning about the programme, Meeting Professionals International (MPI) —the event sector’s leading international association — has joined the effort, offering to provide industry practitioner input, access to global resources and a full MPI student membership for the successful PhD applicant.
Head of UKCEM Dr. James Musgraves said he’s thrilled to be able to announce this news, and cognizant of its impact on an industry in recovery. “We are investing in the long-term recovery of the industry and continue to work closely with key partners such as MPI, in supporting this initiative,” he said. “The fully funded PhD is an indicator of where we focus on collaboration, knowledge exchange and research impact.”
Susan Arslan, the president of the MPI UK & Ireland Chapter said the collaboration will have lasting impact on the global meetings sector. “MPI is delighted to have been chosenfor this opportunity to work in collaboration with Leeds Beckett University, and we arelooking forward to the successful applicant being announced in 2022—MPI’s 50th-anniversary year”, Aslan said. “We applaud every effort that contributes to the ongoingrecovery of the events industry and builds towards a successful future.”
