By: Sam Breuer, Account Executive, Mystic Lake | Aug 1, 2018

Tell us about your business and your current job.

As the newest event and convention center in the Twin Cities metro area, Mystic Lake Center is the natural choice to host business meetings, conferences, weddings, expos and more.  With the addition of the 180-room tower (now 766 total sleeping rooms), it joins Mystic Lake to form the only full-service resort in the Twin Cities. Live gaming, a championship golf course, and spa creates the Midwest’s premier entertainment destination.  Mystic Lake Center encompasses elements found in nature, combined with the distinct features of Minnesota’s four seasons. From the spectacular views of The Meadows at Mystic Lake golf course to the curves of the interior wood panels, organic overtones surround you and your guests for a relaxing and unique experience.  Mystic Lake Center is conveniently located minutes from Minneapolis/St. Paul, MSP airport and a short drive or complimentary ride from Mall of America®. You’ll find Valley Fair, Canterbury Park, and the Minnesota Renaissance Festival just minutes away.

In my current position, I am a Corporate Account Executive, meaning that I work with clients in defined vertical markets within the larger corporate market to book conferences, meetings, expositions, as well as sleeping rooms.

What do you hope to gain from your MPI Membership?

I hope to expand my leadership qualities and my professional network by creating relationships with other like-minded, industry professionals.

If there was only one thing a potential customer could remember about your company, what would that be?

There is more to Mystic Lake than you think!  The Shakopee Mdewakanton Sioux Community owns and operates a diverse collection of enterprises. From a tribal garden and an all-natural food store to two major casinos, the Mystic Showroom and Mystic Amphitheater, a water bottling plant, an organic recycling facility,  family entertainment centers, and many sustainability initiatives.  Our  enterprises help drive the local economy while being stewards of the land.

What one piece of advice would you give to a new supplier joining the MPI network?

Don’t be afraid to start a conversation.  You never know where it could lead.

What has been the best piece of advice you have been given, and how has it made a difference in your life - personally or professionally?

“Remember what you are selling” – This was told to me by my first Director when I started in group sales.  He then explained that I am not selling sleeping rooms with four walls, coffee makers, refrigerators, and HDTV or meeting rooms with tables, chairs, and audio visual equipment in a predetermined arrangement.  Keep things simple and don’t overanalyze situations.  I am selling memories and experiences.  These experiences will build a loyal client base.  It has helped me focus on what is truly important to the clients so that I am able to tailor proposals and presentations to what the client is actually trying to accomplish.

What are some of your favorite pastime activities?

My favorite pastimes are walks with my wife and our daughter.  Currently, it is teaching our daughter how to ride a bike and swim.  I also enjoy cooking, attending sporting events, and spending time with my family and friends.
