Tell us about your business and your current job.
I am currently a corporate group sales manager at the Renaissance Minneapolis Hotel, The Depot. I work to find groups that are a good fit for both our hotel and the client. This is an exciting time for the hospitality industry in Minneapolis. Our city is receiving major exposure by hosting a number of events, such as the Ryder Cup and Super Bowl LII, etc. These events will only drive people and business to our wonderful city. I feel very fortunate to be working in Minneapolis during this excitement and growth!
What do you hope to gain from your MPI Membership?
I hope to gain industry knowledge through the diverse members and monthly meetings. I would love to connect with like-minded meeting and events professionals to build lasting relationships. These relationships are so important for sharing ideas and staying up-to-date with trends.
If there was only one thing a potential customer could remember about your company, what would that be?
The Renaissance Minneapolis Hotel, The Depot is one of the most unique properties in the Twin Cities. Our historic Depot event space dates back to 1899. At the peak of train commerce in the 1920s, there were 29 passenger trains coming in and out of The Depot each day. It is very special that The Depot could preserve this history in a way that is showcased every day. We completed a $30 million dollar renovation this March adding 110 new guestrooms. We also plan to add 20,000 square feet of additional historic event space by early 2019. Our historic preservation paired with modern design creates a very unique experience for our guests!
What one piece of advice would you give to a new supplier joining the MPI network?
I would recommend getting involved and not being afraid to reach out to new contacts at events. You never know what you might have in common and the lasting relationship that could form. MPI is one of the largest groups of seasoned meeting and hospitality professionals. I feel very privileged to have the opportunity to learn from the members of MPI.
What has been the best piece of advice you have been given, and how has it made a difference in your life - personally or professionally?
You make a living by what you get, but you make a life by what you give. (Winston Churchill) This may not necessarily be advice, but it is a great reminder of what is important in life. What people remember is the impact you made on them. If you can share positivity with coworkers, clients, friends and strangers, then I consider that a success.
What are some of your favorite pastime activities?
I grew up doing gymnastics until I graduated from college in 2012. I continue to stay in the coaching world by coaching gymnastics in the evenings. I love seeing the life lessons the gymnasts learn through the sport, just as I have. I also love spending time with my husband whether we are hiking, boating, or trying a new restaurant.
