Why did you join MPI?
I joined MPI for a few good reasons; first is to learn, grow and stay in the know of the latest trends for meeting/event planning. Second; is to meet and network with great planners and third to eventually become a Certified Meeting Professional (CMP).
How long have you been in the meetings/hospitality industry?
I have been planning meetings & events for about 15 years
How did you decide to get involved in this business? What influenced you?
Actually as a student in college, my supervisor asked me to plan a luncheon for a group of people in the office and to find a restaurant, time and put it together and I have been planning ever since.
I think what also influenced me was I really like seeing things go from a pile of junk to beauty and in this industry that is what you see a lot of times. Clients have great ideas sitting in a pile of junk and planners come along and form them into pure beauty.
What’s the most valuable advice you’ve received about working with meetings?
Always double check your events/meetings a few days before the event/meeting takes place and review your check list before and after the event/meeting.
What is one piece of advice about meeting planning you would share?
I would say don’t spread yourself too thin.
Ask people in your meeting network for help.
Try to give a WOW factor at some of your meetings and or events.
What is one thing about this industry that you love?
I love how there are always new trends to incorporate into your meetings. The meeting planning arena is growing at a rapid pace and there is so much you can do for your event. You can be bold to splashy to colorful – there is no limit!
What is one thing about the industry you would like to see changed?
At this time I don’t really see anything that I would like to see changed.
Tell us about your current position.
Currently I’m an Executive Administrator for an organization in St. Paul, which consists of planning meetings, conferences, events, staff retreats, board meetings and much more!
