MPI MN Profiles Planner Lauren Graf

By: MPI Minnesota | Jul 9, 2021

MPI_21_LaurenGraf17MPI MN profiles Planner Lauren Graf, Corporate Event Planner, SPS Commerce.

Why did you join MPI?

I joined MPI because I want to grow my network and make connections with others in the event planning industry. I am excited to be a part of a community of individuals that I can learn from and grow with!

How long have you been in the meetings/hospitality industry?

I have been working in events for about 5 years.

How did you decide to get involved in this business?  What influenced you?

My first job out of college was working at the front desk of SPS Commerce and at the time I had no idea what I wanted to do. My manager at the time ran events for the company and gave me opportunities to come alongside her and help with corporate events. The more I learned and the more I helped with SPS internal events, the more I realized I loved it (and was good at it)!

What’s the most valuable advice you’ve received about working with meetings?

Everything is always changing – the industry, the event scope itself, etc. Basically, no two events are ever the same.

What is one piece of advice about meeting planning you would share?

Always keep the attendee experience top of mind! Meeting planning can be a lot of work and overwhelming at times, but staying rooted in the attendee experience helps me to better justify decisions and keeps me motivated and excited along the way.

What is one thing about this industry that you love?

I love that meetings and events are experiences that people will remember! I love organizing and planning experiences that are fun and memorable for employees.

What is one thing about the industry would you like to see changed?

I would love to see the industry put more focus on creative engagement, whether virtually or in person. I think the industry has already started thinking differently in regard to how attendees engage pre, during and post event, but I truly think these engagement tactics are what make an event an ‘experience’ – and one that is memorable!

What do you do outside of work?

I love spending time outside and at the lakes – running, walking, reading, picnicking, kayaking, - you name it.
