MPI MN Profiles Planner Corrine Sullivan, Meeting & Events Manager for One Call Concepts.

Why did you join MPI? 

I was a member of MPI years ago and ended up focusing on SGMP as I was a Government Planner. I left the meeting planning industry for 10 years – now I’m back as a corporate planner and excited to meet new Chapter members with MPI - Minnesota.

How long have you been in the meetings/hospitality industry? 

Almost 20 years.

How did you decide to get involved in this business?  What influenced you?

I was working for the State of MN and one of my job duties was to plan two annual conferences each year. I’m a stickler for being organized with great attention to detail and planning events brought out those qualities in full force.

What’s the most valuable advice you’ve received about working with meetings? 

If you have done your job well, the meeting will run itself. Another piece of advice is to have an excellent registration process and experience – it sets the tone for the rest of the event.

What is one piece of advice about meeting planning you would share? 

Always follow up promptly. 

What is one thing about this industry that you love?

The people! And the travel and the experiences.

What’s one thing about the industry you would like to see changed? 

Meetings and events are a lot of work. Event planning is listed in the top 10 of most stressful careers, yet we are underpaid.  I hope to see this change in the next decade.

What do you do outside of work?

I enjoy travel, gardening, cooking and entertaining and a good book!
