Hospitality and Human Trafficking: Combating Exploitation in the Service Sector Join us for an in-depth training session on human trafficking, where we will explore common myths and misconceptions, the tactics used by traffickers and pimps, and the role of illicit massage businesses. We will discuss the experiences of victims, the challenges faced when engaging with them, and the complex relationships between traffickers and their victims. The session will also cover key warning signs, how traffickers use social media and the internet for recruitment, and emerging trends identified by the Division of Intelligence. Additionally, we will examine the culture and language associated with sex trafficking and prostitution, as well as the actions individuals can take to combat trafficking. The training will include videos, case discussions from Iowa, and firsthand accounts from survivors. A key emphasis will be placed on understanding that traffickers, victims, and buyers can be anyone, anywhere. Ray Fiedleris the Coordinator for the Iowa Office to Combat Human Trafficking in the Division of Intelligence - Dept. of Public Safety. Ray is responsible for training public and private entities regarding human trafficking, certifying hotels related to their training in human trafficking as required by Iowa Code, creating partnerships with public and private entities, and assisting agencies in investigation and sharing information in human trafficking cases. Ray is a retired Special Agent with the Iowa Division of Criminal Investigation. He spent 4 years at the Casino in Clinton and was then transferred to Fort Dodge where he spent 23 and a half years in the Major Crimes Unit investigating homicide, kidnapping, sexual assault, burglaries, and other felony level cases. Ray has conducted training in elder abuse, sexual assault, and officer involved shootings investigations as well as active armed encounters. Ray graduated from the University of Dubuque in 1985 with a Bachelor of Science in Mathematics and Computer Science while minoring in Business Administration.
