Human Trafficking event… thank you ladies, looking good.

Whew. We all made it through the Super Bowl. Sure many of you heard that sadly human trafficking did happen here in Atlanta during Super Bowl week. Thank you to the MPI GA members that volunteered on January 28th and participated in the Linking Freedom In Our Backyard one day event and passing out materials to area businesses to alert workers to be the eyes and ears in the community to spot human trafficking and save lives. Many don’t know that Atlanta is a large hub of human trafficking nationwide, and the Super Bowl is one of the largest events for human traffickers. MPI Georgia is proud to be a part of increasing awareness through community outreach.

Human Trafficking3IN OUR BACKYARD just released a new short film (Warning: Viewing this video could be disturbing to young audiences or those who have experience exploitation) showing the effectiveness of our Freedom Stickers ahead of Super Bowl LIII. The three-minute film documents the success behind the Freedom sticker campaign, which was launched in 2011 and has been deployed at every Super Bowl since Super Bowl XLIX in Phoenix. Human trafficking is happening 365 days a year in every zip code in America.

IN OUR BACKYARD created Freedom Stickers with survivors in 2011 to bring public awareness and provide a lifeline of hope to victims of human trafficking.  Get Freedom Stickers

Let’s Have Lunch at the Covenant House

On Saturday, March 16, we return to the Covenant House, a local shelter that takes in juveniles who are victims of human trafficking. At Covenant House, victims are provided unconditional love and comprehensive support during their formative years so that the youth CAN and WILL realize their fullest potential. The youth are empowered to finish high school, start college, gain employment, live independently, and ultimately step out into the world knowing they are prepared to be successful.

How You Can Help:

  • SERVE: Pledge with the Community Outreach Committee to take a stand with MPI Georgia to end human trafficking by serving lunch to these 60 youth residents.  Last November MPI-GA volunteers were moved by the spirit of these homeless children.
  • DONATE FOOD:  If you would like to make a food or monetary donation for the meal, please contact Maria Weiss with Jekyll Island Authority.
  • DONATE ESSENTIALS: The Covenant House is always in need of the following: blankets, pillows, hats, gloves, scarves, underwear and socks. Please contact Laura Steele, CMP if you are interested in donating any of these items or for more details. For our hotelier members, Covenant House will take used blankets/pillows that a hotel may be discarding, as well as new products.
  • Send an email Maria Weiss for more details or to sign up to volunteer for upcoming events.
