Reno Resorts Keep Third-Party Commissions at 10 Percent

As major hotel groups across the United States have cut third-party planner commissions to seven percent, properties in Reno — including the Eldorado Resort Casino, with 12,000 square feet of flexible meeting space, and the Grand Sierra Resort and Casino, offering 200,000 square feet of event space — will remain at 10 percent, according to the Reno-Sparks Convention and Visitors Authority (RSCVA).

“Meeting planners play an integral role in the process of securing group business,” RSCVA’s Vice President of Sales Mike Larragueta said. “Reno Tahoe hoteliers recognize the value and expertise planners bring to this industry and will continue offering adequate incentives for the foreseeable future.”

Among venues that plan to keep commissions at 10 percent is the Nugget Casino Resort in Sparks. The property recently underwent $25 million in improvements, including a remodel of the 72,000-square-foot casino. All rooms at the Nugget have also been renovated and a fitness center has been built.

All resorts included in The Row, a mega-resort destination in downtown Reno, will continue to offer 10 percent commissions to third-party planners. Properties there include the Eldorado, the 4,200-room Silver Legacy Resort Casino, and the 1,572-room Circus Circus Reno. The Row recently underwent $50 million in improvements, including the addition of the 21,000-square-foot Spa at Silver Legacy — now northern Nevada’s largest luxury spa.

Another Reno resort that was recently upgraded is the 1,900-room Grand Sierra, which underwent $100 million in renovations to guestrooms, the pool, and more. In addition to its meeting space, the Grand Sierra has an 80,000-square-foot casino and a wide variety of onsite restaurants and lounges.

Other large meeting properties that will continue to offer 10 percent commissions include the 824-room Atlantis Casino Resort Spa, the 928-room Harrah’s Reno Hotel & Casino, and the 1,621-room Peppermill Resort Spa Casino. Connected to the 600,000-square-foot Reno-Sparks Convention Center via a glass-enclosed sky bridge, the Atlantis offers 50,000-square feet of flexible meeting space, including two ballrooms, 22 meeting rooms, an executive boardroom, and a business center. Harrah’s has 24,000 square feet of unique meeting space, including the nearly 14,000-square-foot Robert A. Ring Convention Center. In addition, the property has 62,000 square feet of outdoor space and seven onsite restaurants. Across the street, the non-gaming Whitney Peak Hotel offers more than 20,000 square feet of meeting space and features a non-traditional fitness experience that includes the tallest artificial rock-climbing wall in North America. The nearby Peppermill provides more than 100,000 square feet of meeting and event space housed in its renovated Tuscany Tower.
