Lynn Miles, CMP |
How did you get started in the industry? I’ve had a 30 year run in hotel management. Along the way I have been fortunate to spend time with mentors who encouraged me to learn all aspects of the meetings and convention industry.
If I wasn’t in the hospitality industry: A travel writer, for sure.
What’s your MPI connection? As a convention director with a national association for many years, being a member of MPI was a source of education and networking. I formed the skills I needed to be successful in this industry.
Tell us about your work and personal goals for 2020: My personal goal for 2020 is to continue to foster strong relationships with clients and to create successful meeting experiences in Daytona Beach. I am currently working on the new CFMP (Certified Faith Based Meeting Professional) certification which I will complete in February.
Rookie Career Mistake: Not trusting my gut instincts and surrounding myself with negativity.
Best Practice: Continue to hold myself to the strongest work ethic possible. Individuals who take pride in their work are respected in the field. Also, build a strong team around you.
Best Vacation / Dream Destination: Traveling the East coast of Australia. One day I dream of going on an African safari.
How would your co-workers describe you? My colleagues would say that I am very optimistic. I see setbacks as opportunities to learn and grow. There is always a creative solution to a problem, and I love searching for it. I’ve also been told that I am both a strong leader and team player.
When I’m not in the office: I enjoy spending time with family and friends. I am a true beach bum at heart! I spend most of my free time soaking up the sun on Daytona’s beautiful beach spots. Life is Good.
