Ataesia Mickens |
MPI Georgia extends a warm welcome to Ataesia Mickens who became a member this past December. Ataesia serves as the Property Management and Hospitality Specialist at Mbo’Wam, a corporate housing provider that specializes in short term luxury rentals in downtown Atlanta, Midtown, and Smyrna. She is currently hard at work overseeing the property management and operations side of the business while working with the team to improve customer experience.
Ataesia’s entered the hospitality field right out of college when she worked in banquets for a hotel. Her job consisted of setting up meeting rooms and ballrooms, moving meeting equipment in the conference center, and responding to guest requests. Not only was Ataesia the youngest person in her department at the time, but she was also the only female on the team. Many felt that her job was considered a man’s job due to the manual labor, but Ataesia enjoyed every minute of it. “I always do what I can to put the guest at ease. As a “hospitalitarian,” it is my job to ensure the guests have a great, relaxing, and memorable experience whether it is during a weekday meeting or at the end of a long trip to the city.”
Ataesia’s introduction to MPI Georgia came while seeking insights on how to advance in the hospitality industry. She spoke with a client who was a Certified Meeting Professional. “She put me on game,” encouraging me to find organizations with like-minded people. That encouragement led her to MPI.
At Mbo’Wam LLC, Ataesia is part of several groundbreaking projects that are soon to turn the hospitality industry on its head. She is doing a lot of work in systems and processes. Ataesia loves this role because she has a chance to create something that is essential to making the work of others more efficient. Ataesia warns against a rookie career mistake: overpromising and giving impossible guarantees. She is still working on this one.
