Sybil Lee, CMP Event Manager The Coca-Cola Company |
Sybil A. Lee, CMP, Event Manager at The Coca-Cola Company, shares her experiences in this month's CMP Spotlight:
* What motivated you to pursue the CMP designation? I wanted to broaden my knowledge and understanding of decision making, planning and execution for meeting and events. I also wanted to be able to position myself to be a viable candidate for promotions and greater roles in my company.
* How did participation in the CMP Study Group support your studying to take the exam? The CMP Study group played a major role in my study focus. Gathering with my group helped me better dive into the materials. It was also beneficial to have a group people that were encouraging, supporting, and pushing each other to achieve our goals.
* How did you feel when you saw the words "You Passed"? I was elated! We were all awaiting the result for each other and were so happy and honored to have passed the exam.
* What benefits have you experienced as a result of having your CMP? Having the CMP designation shows your peers, company, and the industry that you have invested time to learn and gain an in-depth knowledge of the industry and your role in the industry. Having the certification has created opportunities for me to gain access to and lead larger projects at my company, which ultimately led to my receiving a promotion.
* Do you find information you learned while studying to take the exam helpful in your positions since earning your CMP and are you able to use some of the formulas, etc., to help your meetings go well? Yes, I do! And most of the information, I still use to this day. It impacts my ability to be strategic and make decisions based on a greater knowledge level than I would have otherwise had.
* Reflecting on the time since you achieved the CMP designation, was it a good use of your time and resources to take that step? It was valuable beyond words. Knowing that I invested time to grow my knowledge of the various rules, requirements, and roles in the hospitality industry, allowed me to showcase that knowledge and has impacted my overall career goals. I continually focus on growth and development to ensure that I can maintain the classification as a "Certified Meeting Professional".
