LaTara joined Georgia MPI eight years ago when she started with Lockheed Martin in Atlanta. She hails from Raleigh, North Carolina, and graduated from East Carolina University with a degree in Mass Communications and a concentration in Journalism. Her studies led her to Atlanta where she got her initial experience working at The Gwinnett Daily News. She has held a variety of jobs in the meeting and entertainment industry with companies such as the Atlanta Hawks and Equifax. LaTara had an exciting opportunity working with the 1996 Atlanta Committee for the Olympic Games (ACOG) as the coordinator of the mascot program. She coordinated the volunteer program for the Olympic Mascot, IZZY, which included special appearances at schools and corporate partner events throughout the world. As you would guess, she too performed as Izzy numerous times… showcasing her choreography skills.
During her spare time, LaTara enjoys reading, dancing, and music. The best advice she ever received was from her Mom who encouraged her during her time with the 1996 Olympics to not take anything for granted. Live in the moment because you never know where the opportunity might take you. LaTara can now pass on her own advice to someone considering a career in the meetings and events industry: Love what you do because it can sometimes be a thankless job, but it is worth the hard work that cannot always be taught.
