Carol Hall Association and Government Sales Manager August Marriott at the Convention Center Member since 2000 |
This month’s Member Showcase highlights Carol Hall, one of our longtime members with 22 years and an outstanding 7 years as Chair of the Shining Star Award. More on this enriching role later in the feature.
Carol’s entry into the hospitality world started, as so many of us did, when she was in college working as a server at a Holiday Inn. Obviously, the management recognized her talents, and she quickly moved into various positions from Front Desk, Accounting, Catering, and Sales at multiple levels. Eventually, she landed in her present position for the past 18 years as Association and Government Sales Manager for the Augusta Marriott at the Convention Center.
It is always interesting to discover how MPI Georgia helps our members grow. The responses run the gamut. I was not surprised when Carol responded as follows: “ While I learn from many areas, MPI Georgia has helped me the most on the meetings side of our industry with educational programs that are relevant to my career. “As we know, part of growth is overcoming our challenges. Carol discovered leadership comes more naturally than she expected, and, as a result, she tries to mentor new colleagues and industry counterparts.
Carol’s growth is ongoing as Chair of The Shining Star Award. This role has proven to be very gratifying to her each quarter. MPI Georgia members send their nominations of volunteers whose hard work and dedication to the chapter are recognized. Carol and the voting committee review each submission based on the nominees’ impact and responsibilities to the chapter, the amount of time invested, the length of time, and the committees on which they have served. At the designated luncheon, the winning nominee is presented the Shining Star Award, which is a lovely, framed certificate of a star registered in their name at one of our quarterly events.
In summary, Carol is certainly not all work and no play. One of her accomplishments she is proud of is her hobby of buying, refurbishing, and selling vintage items. This came from my love of antiques. “I now have 2 booths in an antique mall in Madison, Georgia. After years of putting together my own booths for work trade shows, this comes naturally. It’s a great stress reliever, and love visiting Madison.” Let’s not forget her flamingo-themed living room holiday décor really helped my holiday spirit this year! That would make any of us smile each day!!
