Jason Bastow |
Have you met Jason? He’s a busy guy this fall. He became a parent this summer and is juggling a busy hotel job along with organizing the upcoming Fall Classic Golf and Bocce Tournament. As a senior manager at Hyatt Regency Atlanta, Jason handles about 20 large-scale programs each year contributing approximately 10 million in revenue to the hotel. Additionally, he oversees the event technology team and mentors new managers.
What’s your MPI connection? I have always been connected to MPI in a few different ways. First, I was part of the Southeast Florida chapter, and I have handled several MPI programs while serving in the capacity as an event manager at Hyatt Hotels. It took me awhile, but I finally joined the Georgia chapter after realizing I was missing an important component of my career – a business connection with similar industry professionals.
Tell us about your current chapter activities? I like to stay busy and involved. When I joined the Georgia chapter, I wanted to immediately jump on a committee and start networking. I first helped out with the 2017 Phoenix Awards and then jumped over to work with the Fall Classic committee. Following that event I was asked if I would consider chairing the 2018 tournament. Of course I said yes.
Rookie Career Mistake: Pre-setting dinner salads topped with onions and blue cheese. Open those ballroom doors...
Best Practice: Take a breath – this isn’t rocket science. Stay humble. Take time to get to know the people you work with on a personal level.
Next Work Destination: Maybe the new hotel opening next to the Georgia World Congress Center. Wink, wink.
Next Vacation Destination: New York. And my dream vacation would be Alaska.
How would your co-workers best describe you? He is always willing to mentor others, share knowledge, and get to know you on a personal level.
What is your biggest pet peeve? People not washing their hands after leaving the restroom.
When I’m not in the office: I enjoy hanging out with friends, enjoying a beverage or two, and watching football (Go Gators). I am very passionate about the outdoors, whether it be hiking in the area, on a boat in the lake fishing, in the Chattahoochee fly-fishing, or hunting deep in the Georgia wilderness.
If I wasn’t in the hospitality industry: I might be an engineer… All of the males in my family are engineers. After two years in college I realized it wasn’t the right fit. Perhaps it was the midnight study sessions in the physics lab.
