Tamara McLaurin
Joined MPI Georgia: January 2020
MPI Georgia welcomes Tamara McLaurin, CMP, who serves as a Senior Event Planner at the Federal Reserve Bank of Atlanta. In this position, Tamara plans, manages, and coordinates district, system, and public outreach events for both internal and external clients. The Federal Reserve Bank of Atlanta has been her professional home for 7 years. The most critical challenge for Tamara’s work right now is being able to pivot in this current environment and learn the technology platforms to plan meetings virtually.
Tamara was introduced to the Georgia Chapter of MPI through her employment at the Georgia International Convention Center when they hosted a monthly luncheon in mid 2000s; however, she became more involved through her participation in the CMP Study Group in 2012. Tamara has been a member off and on over the years but rejoined most recently in January 2020. In addition to her achieving her CMP, Tamara has received a Bachelor of Business Administration degree in marketing from James Madison University and DeVry University awarded her a Master of Business Administration in Project Management.
Ms. McLaurin professionally joined the hospitality industry in 2003 serving as a Sales Coordinator at the Sheraton Atlanta Hotel. This job stood out for her because she learned a lot about hotel blocks, contracts, and F&B minimums which set the groundwork for her career. As a best practice to planning events, Tamara has found tremendous value in understanding the client and their respective audience.
As with many hospitality professionals, there is an incredible value in experiences. Tamara commemorates her travel experiences through her shot glass collection. She secures one at each destination as memorabilia, the more unique the shot glass, the better. And the best concert she ever attended was Sade. The production, audio, and visuals were amazing and made it more than a concert; it was an experience.
