*What inspired you to get involved with MPI Georgia, and what has your journey on the Board been like so far?
I was first
introduced to MPI Georgia in 2000. I immediately felt welcome when I attended
the monthly events and joined the organization soon after (I still have my
original membership card!). I quickly realized that joining a committee was the
best way to be involved. After serving in several capacities on different
committees, I was approached by a board member and asked to consider serving on
the board. I have been very fortunate to serve alongside many past presidents
who have always helped me learn about my responsibilities and helped me gain a
new perspective on leading volunteers. I am grateful to be serving for my 3rd
term on the board. Each year has been different because of the new slate of
officers, and I continue to gain knowledge from my peers in their roles.
*How has your experience with MPI Georgia influenced your professional growth and perspective on the meeting and events industry?
Attending the Educational Luncheons and Leadership seminars have always been very valuable to my professional development. I’ve gained a lot of knowledge about the industry, particularly in areas that I do not experience in my current role at work. I’ve also been fortunate to build friendships with many fellow members of MPI Georgia. I’ve been introduced to many customers and vendors through this organization, which includes the top professionals in the meetings and events industry.
*What has been the most rewarding aspect of your role as a Board member, and how has it impacted your approach to leadership?
The most
rewarding was being nominated this year as “Chapter Leader of the Year”. What a
great honor to be nominated! It made me realize that more of our members should
be recognized for their hard work. As a leader, I want to encourage all of our
members to nominate the shining stars who work so hard to make our chapter
successful.
*What do you see as the biggest opportunity or priority for MPI Georgia in the coming year?
Our biggest opportunity is finding a way to be more inclusive of all members throughout the state (those not located in the Atlanta area), and I believe our biggest priority is making a positive impact on our community.
*Which MPI Georgia event are you most proud to have been a part of, and why?
I am most proud of the Phoenix Awards Gala. Serving a few times on this committee, and then this year as the Director of Strategic Events, it truly is exciting to see our organization recognize our members for all of their accomplishments.
*What advice would you give to new members or those considering taking on a leadership role within MPI Georgia?
I highly recommend serving on a committee that will allow you to learn new skills. Also, I recommend joining the Mentorship Program so the seasoned members can help guide them along their path and challenge them to try something new.
