*What inspired you to get involved with MPI Georgia, and what has your journey on the Board been like so far?

I was encouraged by industry colleagues like Neil Hibbert, Melissa Legaux, and Steven Schumacher, all former board members, to consider joining MPI Georgia. Seeing how members were positively impacted through education and connections inspired me to get involved. MPI Georgia has been a valuable platform for learning, building relationships, and making a meaningful impact. My journey on the Board has been incredibly fulfilling, allowing me to grow both personally and professionally while contributing to our vibrant community. Currently, I serve as the Director of Communication, where I oversee the development of our monthly newsletter, annual directory, and other Chapter publications. I’m passionate about ensuring that our member communications are impactful, well-designed, and consistently branded, while also collaborating with other directors to promote Chapter activities.

*How has your experience with MPI Georgia influenced your professional growth and perspective on the meeting and events industry?

Being actively involved with MPI Georgia has significantly enriched my professional growth and understanding of the meetings and events industry. It has provided me with deeper insights into industry trends, challenges, and innovations while also expanding my network with like-minded professionals dedicated to elevating industry standards. This experience has underscored the importance of continuous learning and adaptability, which are essential to thriving in our dynamic field.

*What has been the most rewarding aspect of your role as a Board member, and how has it impacted your approach to leadership?

Introducing MPI-GA to those unfamiliar with the association has been incredibly rewarding. I don’t just talk about MPI-GA at our events—I make it a point to meet people where they are, whether it's in casual meetups or professional settings. I believe this approach can help grow our membership since not everyone can attend events or may even know about the association. My approach to leadership is rooted in inclusivity and accessibility; I’m committed to opening doors and providing opportunities for others to succeed.

*What do you see as the biggest opportunity or priority for MPI Georgia in the coming year?

The biggest opportunity for MPI Georgia next year is to proactively engage with emerging professionals in our industry, from front desk agents and sales coordinators to high school and college students. Reflecting on my own experience of discovering MPI Georgia later in my career, I see the value of early involvement. It’s essential for seasoned professionals to meet people where they are, as not everyone can attend events. By spreading awareness and providing opportunities, we can equip the next generation with the tools they need to succeed. As the saying goes, "when you've reached the top, send the elevator back down for others." This approach will not only strengthen our industry but also ensure MPI Georgia remains a leading voice and resource in the evolving landscape of meetings and events.

*Which MPI Georgia event are you most proud to have been a part of, and why?

I'm most proud of the holiday event we hosted at the Georgia Aquarium with MPI-GA, PCMA SE, and IAEE. This event is special because it unites like-minded professionals from different associations, all focused on the common goal of bringing people together. Last year, my company, Discover Dunwoody, sponsored a youth choir to perform during the event. The kids were thrilled—not just to sing but also to experience the aquarium. Afterward, I received handwritten thank-you cards from the choir director and the students, which truly made my day. It reminded me that our work can have a meaningful impact on others. Who knows how that experience might inspire those kids? Maybe one day, they'll find their way into the meetings and events industry.

*What advice would you give to new members or those considering taking on a leadership role within MPI Georgia?

My advice to new members or those considering a leadership role within MPI Georgia is to dive in with an open mind and a willingness to learn. The opportunities for growth, both personally and professionally, are immense. Engage with your peers, volunteer for committees, and don't hesitate to share your ideas or ask questions. Leadership within MPI Georgia is not just about guiding others; it's also about continuously evolving and making meaningful contributions to the industry. Embrace the journey, and you'll find it incredibly rewarding.
