Meet Our Speakers: 

Kevin Kirby, Executive Director,
MPI Foundation

During Kevin Kirby’s career in the meeting and event industry he has served as head of global marketing and sales for Hard Rock International, senior director for worldwide sales and national sales director for Walt Disney Parks & Resorts and vice president of convention sales for Universal Orlando. He has also worked with business development and consulting for the industry.  Kevin currently is the executive director of the MPI Foundation. 

As a MPI member for over 20 years Kevin has volunteered as a MPI chapter leader, served as chair of the MPI International Board of Directors as well as the Global Board of Trustees.   Kevin’s newest role is the executive director for the MPI Foundation.  The foundation raises funds to  provide members with professional development and career opportunities through grants and scholarships. The foundation also funds research and pan-industry initiatives that support MPI’s strategic plan.

Michelle Guelbart,
MSW; Director of Private Sector Engagement for ECPAT-USA

Michelle leads program development and strategy for ECPAT-USA’s private sector work. She advises companies on corporate social responsibility efforts to protect children from trafficking. ECPAT-USA partners including American Airlines, CWT, Delta Air Lines, Wyndham Hotels & Resorts, Uber, Marriott International, and Hilton Worldwide. She has contributed to Congressional testimony, presented to the World Economic Forum, Institute of Medicine, and the White House National Action Plan on Responsible Business. Michelle wrote the American Hotel and Lodging Association Educational Institute’s e-learning module to combat human trafficking in the hospitality industry. She has been interviewed on her work by CNN, the New York Times, Thomson Reuters, and Forbes, among other publications. She was named a Changemaker by MeetingsNet, a Hero by MeetGreen, and one of the Top 500 People in Events for Social Responsibility by BizBash. Michelle received her Master’s degree in Social Work from Columbia University’s School of Social Work with a focus in international social work and social policy. She was recently appointed to the US Department of Labor's Advisory Committee on Human Trafficking.

ECPAT: The Meeting and Event Industry’s Role in Combatting Sex Trafficking

The meeting and event industry is uniquely situated to be the eyes and ears of identifying human trafficking and child exploitation, and encouraging suppliers to join us. Hear from the director of ECPAT, a non-profit organization that helps companies fight human trafficking, about this highly sensitive cause.

Learning Objectives:
1.  Understand the scope of the issue
2.  Recognize the signs
3.  Know how to report suspected trafficking and engage suppliers, travelers, corporates to amplify awareness

Sister Kathleen Bryant,
RSC, Religious Sisters of Charity

Kathleen Bryant is an activist and abolitionist working to end human trafficking both nationally and globally.  Sr. Kathleen is a Religious Sister of Charity and a member of the Board of US Catholic Sisters Against Human Trafficking. Kathleen collaborates with several national and international organizations to raise awareness and has a particular passion for the children being victimized. As a member of the Los Angeles Regional Human Trafficking Task Force, she also serves on the Survivor Services Committee. Kathleen collaborates with survivors of human trafficking to ensure that her efforts are survivor informed as well as promoting scholarships.  Kathleen has learned about resilience from these witnesses of the strength of the human spirit.
